Typically, any wind other than an offshore is something that surfers try to avoid. At just 11 years of age, more than 30 years ago, Robby Naish saw it as an opportunity to diversify his surfing passion. The son of a competitive surfer and surfboard shaper out of La Jolla, California, young Robby moved to Kailua, on the windward side of Oahu, Hawaii, and rapidly became a leading figure in the fledgling world of windsurfing. Combining his father's penchant for equipment design, his own athletic abilities and a passion for the waves, Robby began winning world titles at age 13 and has continued to do so over ensuing decades. His name even graces the skies thanks to a successful foray into the world of kite-surfing. Stand up paddle surfing has rounded out his wave-riding repertoire and Robby has shown that where one man finds limitation, another finds opportunity.
